An Introduction to asymptotically safe Quantum Gravity

This talk will start with a short reminder on the renormalization group concept,
and how this is implemented in the flow equation. In the following I will relate
this idea to quantum gravity (QG) focussing on the failure of perturbative QG.
In the main part of this talk I will discuss how the asymptotic safety (AS)
scenario may provide us with a non-perturbative way of quantizing gravity. For
this I will look at pure QG, demonstrating that the inclusion of the famous
Goroff-Sagnotti counter term of perturbative QG seems to pose no problem for the
Finally I will be concerned with the inclusion of matter. In particular I will
have a glimpse at the intimate interplay of gravity and matter in the ultraviolet.
